TCL Plex gets its Android 10 update with camera improvements and added bloatware
The TCL Plex marks the company’s first foray into mobile devices, offering a decent hardware package in the form of a solid mid-range smartphone for a respectable price. The company’s prior experience in tech stems primarily from its TVs, though the TCL Plex was a surprisingly well-rounded package that clearly had thought put into it. The company isn’t doing terribly on its first-ever major upgrade either, with the Android 10 update beginning to roll out now. There’s a bit of a nasty surprise though, as it comes with added bloatware.
The Android 10 update for the TCL Plex comes in at a hefty 2.7GB, and packs a new file sharing app and a game called “Modern Combat Rebel Guns.” That game has come pre-installed on Motorola smartphones in the past and can be uninstalled, though it will be restored after a factory reset. Android 10 brings a load of new features such as system-wide dark mode, new privacy controls, new gesture controls, and more. The update also promises device-specific improvements with better 48MP photo quality, EE/O2 VoLTE and VoWiFi in the UK, music controls on the lock screen, and more.
The update will roll out over time, and you may not get it immediately on your TCL Plex. Companies tend to roll out updates slowly in the form of a “staged rollout,” as if there are any issues, it can minimize the damage. Let us know in the comments if you get the update!
